GM,
FWIW this is Briefings take......

Semiconductor Equipment

Last week we told you about the rumors making the rounds that Applied Materials would issue an earnings warning... After Friday's close, the company did just that... AMAT warned that it would post a Q3 gain of $0.15-$0.18, well below street estimate of $0.21... Cited DRAM overcapacity, lower prices and order delays from Asia as reasons for disappointing results... Expects news orders in Q3 and Q4 to be below Q2 levels... In other words conditions are bad now and will remain so for at least another several months.

AMAT's warning may hurt the stock a bit, but let's face it, street is well aware of the poor industry conditions... Consequently, collateral damage will be minimal.

That said, group could take a hit from the uncertainty created by Japan's election results.
