Since this is the "kooks" thread, I'd like to pose a kooky question.

Given the size of SI's membership, clearly not everybody on every thread is going to be mentally well. So in the case of somebody really stepping over the line, how much "lee-way" do you give them? How much do they have to be responsible for?

In this case, somebody states flat-out that another has served time for stock fraud and child molestation. The original post was serious enough to have been pulled:

Now it's a simple "sticks" and "stones" matter to let some name-calling slide. We all do it to some degree. Flagrant libel without a shred of evidence is quite another matter. To what degree do we make exceptions if the person is:

1. rational but just an idiot
2. just an idiot
3. truly mentally unwell
