I think we are in danger of talking ourselves into a recession, something the UK is very good at. Most guys I talk to on the markets are expecting big drops in a years time in anticipation of a global slump in Q1/Q2 2000, and they are actually building a fund to start buying at that time......

Someone (an extremely rich member of a historically wealthy family) once said to me "The nice thing about recession is that it returns the wealth to where it naturally belongs". Whilst I don't agree with the sentiment he was quite right about the outcome.

As for your property predictions, if you want to look at a bubble ready to burst, look at Southern Ireland. Every piece of real estate is being snapped up by foreigners at ludicrous prices. Where is the logic in paying in excess of œ100k for a cottage that only realises rents of œ600/month - in season! I think (hope and pray more like) the UK will stay regionalised in its downturn/slowdown.
