Bitstream Licenses TrueDoc to Nokia for High-Quality Character Rendering in Set-Top-Box Platform
Bitstream provides Nokia with dynamic font download and rendering solution for Digital TV and Internet font fidelity
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998-- Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ:BITS - news) today announced that Nokia MultiMedia Network Terminals has licensed its TrueDoc 2.5 high-quality font rendering solution. Bitstream's TrueDoc technology will be integrated into Nokia digital television set-top-boxes and interactive terminals to provide high-quality character rendering on low-resolution displays. TrueDoc, the standard font format specification of the Digital Video Audio Council (DAVIC) and the U.K. Digital Terrestrial Group, will deliver full multilingual language support while reducing memory requirement costs. TrueDoc 2.5 will provide Nokia with font fidelity for the viewing of World Wide Web and digital television content.

TrueDoc is an extremely compact and efficient font rendering technology designed to deliver high-quality text across multiple platforms. Compatible with all industry-standard font formats, TrueDoc's low memory requirements and low processor overhead are ideal for embedded environments. TrueDoc produces high-quality, well-formed characters regardless of output size. A number of special effects are available from TrueDoc which enhance text quality on all low-resolution displays. Special effects include antialising, gamma correction and color blending to produce output for text and background color combinations. TrueDoc can be integrated into a server/client configuration, conserving bandwidth and memory resources on the client platform. Multiple language support is also provided by TrueDoc, which has the ability to store double-byte data for Japanese, Chinese and Korean typeface designs.
