USCS International Announces Agreement With CBIS to Offer Electronic Billing Solution Via Internet

BusinessWire, Monday, July 13, 1998 at 06:46

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--

Electronic Billing Solution Allows Service Providers to Offer
Consumers A Wider Range of Options for Receiving and Paying
Monthly Statements

USCS International Inc. (NASCAQ:USCS) today announced that its
International Billing Services (IBS) subsidiary, a leading provider of
complete statement processing solutions to the communications
industry, and CBIS, a leading provider of billing and customer support
solutions to the communications industry, will team to offer IBS'
Electronic Billing Solution to CBIS's entire client base.
Under the terms of a multi-year agreement between the two
industry leaders, companies that use CBIS's billing and customer
support solutions can now offer consumers a wider range of options for
receiving and paying their monthly statements.
These options include electronic statements that can be viewed
and paid online via the provider's Internet web site, through
electronic bill consolidators such as MSFDC, CheckFree and Intuit, and
through invited push technology, in addition to the traditional paper
format.
"CBIS chose IBS because of its leadership in statement processing
and because it has established relationships with all the key players
-- MSFDC, CheckFree, Intuit, CyberCash -- in the electronic billing
marketplace," said Robert J. Marino, president and CEO of CBIS.
"These two points made the decision to team with IBS to offer the
Electronic Billing Solution to our clients an easy one. At CBIS, we've
developed our billing and customer support solutions to enable our
clients to compete and differentiate themselves more effectively. This
expansion of our existing relationship with IBS clearly reflects that
position. As more and more customers request the option of electronic
statement delivery, the ability to provide that service will become a
key competitive advantage for our clients."
"IBS is committed to making the new and quickly-changing area of
electronic billing easy for our customers," said Randy Lintecum,
president of IBS. IBS has applied its statement design and data
management expertise and expanded its industry relationships to allow
billers to efficiently and cost-effectively offer consumers true
choice in statement delivery channels.
It is the only statement processing company that can act as a
single point of contact for any major company's billing needs --
electronic, paper-based or both.
"We are pleased to be expanding our long-term relationship with
CBIS and to support CBIS as it offers these exciting new electronic
billing solutions to its clients," continued Lintecum. "We will
continue our development efforts so that CBIS and other IBS customers
will always have easy access to the most advanced and effective
statement processing solutions."
IBS' Electronic Billing Solution maximizes billers' monthly
statements by enabling them to display fully interactive HTML versions
of statements on their own web sites or wherever consumers wish to
access them.
All the information normally found on their paper statements
appears, but with greater functionality. For example, embedded
hyperlinks provide answers to frequently asked questions, full-color
inserts link to the provider's website for ordering products and
services. With the click of a button, consumers can also pay their
electronic bills using their credit cards or checking accounts.

Other functions available with IBS' Electronic Billing Solution
include:
*T

-- Electronic bill viewing for customer service representatives
(CSRs) using PCs with a standard web browser. In addition, CSRs
will have access to complete transaction logs indicating how
consumers used their electronic bill;

-- Real-time reports that allow the provider to see how electronic
inserts have performed;

-- Flexible electronic templates that allow bills to be displayed in
a variety of ways;

-- Servers located at IBS for storing current and historical
electronic billing data.
