Herndon, VA, May 18, 1998- The consumer-initiated electronic bill payment industry processed more than 283 million consumer bill payments in 1997, a 150% increase over 1996, according to the results of the first ever survey of the industry. Sponsored jointly by the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA), acting through its Bill Payment Council, and Coopers & Lybrand, L.L.P, the survey found that electronic bill payments were worth $64.3 billion 1997, up 139% from 1996. |
