Creative Behind The Curve?

Why is Creative Labs falling behind in the technology of sound cards? Almost all sound companies are now producing PCI sound cards and yet the leader in sound is not. The future I feel (as well as other end users) is in PCI. I have been a loyal user of Sound Blaster products for the past six years but now I feel I may have to turn to another company. Please give me some answers.

Online Editor Gordon Ung Replies: Creative's problems probably stem from being No. 1 in consumer sound card technology for too long. It's a fast moving industry and you either lead or get out of the way. With that said, Creative looks poised to strike back with its Sound Blaster Live! product. It's PCI-based and looks to push the envelope. Expect it to make a splash down in August.

The folks over at Coolinfo sent word about the release of Creative Labs new sound card, as well as info on Creative's next generation 3dblaster. Here is the info:

The Sound Blaster Live! will be released at the end of July, planned to be initially packaged with Cambridge SoundWorks' either new four-point PC Works speakers or their new 5.1 channel speaker set. Both priced well over $300. I'm assuming (forgot to ask) that this confirms that the Live! will have onboard AC-3 decoder?
