KTVU-Oakland Becomes Latest Network Affiliate to Purchase NDS High Definition Encoder Gear; Fox Affiliate Prepares for November HDTV Launch with 720p/60 Encoding System Business Wire - July 13, 1998 13:57 Jump to first matched term
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--NDS Americas Inc., a leading provider of end-to-end digital broadcasting solutions, today announced it has won another in a series of ATSC encoder contracts.
KTVU-Oakland, a Fox affiliate owned by Cox Broadcasting Inc., is the most recent television station to purchase NDS' high definition encoding system. The encoder contract is the first awarded to NDS by a Cox Broadcasting television station and the first for a Fox affiliate. The high definition encoder will be delivered to KTVU in time to meet its targeted November on air date. The complete encoding system includes the NDS E5810 HDTV encoder, StreamServer PCpro management system, and a microwave DS-3 interface for the Studio Transmitter Link (STL).
NDS continues to expand upon its recent ATSC product introduction success at the NAB conference and exhibition. One of the few companies who demonstrated working ATSC-compliant high-definition encoder systems, NDS has since become a preferred vendor among television station broadcasters due to product availability, compression quality, system design flexibility and competitive pricing schemes.
"The NDS high definition encoding system enables KTVU to offer our audience a high-performance HDTV product today with the flexibility to add revenue generating, value-added multicasting, data and interactive services as digital broadcasting matures," said Ken Manley, Engineering Manager for KTVU. "I, along with Sterling Davis, Director of Operations, also wanted to select a vendor who could deliver a complete end-to-end ATSC high definition solution, and our extensive search led us to NDS." Davis has since been promoted to the role of Vice President of Engineering for Cox Broadcasting Inc. in Atlanta. |
