I think you are right when you think that Russia won't fail. I've just finished working in Moscow for three years and also enjoyed it. One thing you have to remember is that Russia is a very educated society with real bright people. You can compare them to Asia and South America where there is still large illiteracy rates and kids don't complete school. Russia just needs to get there political situation in order (definitely not an easy task). They have got a taste of capatilism now and will keep moving forward. I believe that it is almost impossible to revert back to communism. They have moved too far ahead, but it won't be a straight ride up.

If you have a long term perspective I believe you are going to make a pile of money. People will argue which Russian equity is the best to own. I don't own any Russian equities at this time, but like the levels many of them are trading at (Lukoil, Vimplecom, Rostelcom). The first two apparently are run very well and have great management. I like Rostelcom too because of the tremendous growth potential of this industry in Russia. Not very well developed.

Just thought I'd add some insight from someone who has spent the last three years in Moscow. This place is going to be an economic power someday. Sooner than most people think.

I hope some of this makes sense. I'm a little tired this evening.
