BEAS is a better short term growth opportunity than ORCL
and I'm into growth stocks. ORCL is a good long term performer. They will continue to grow at 15-20% annually for a long time. BEAS will continue to grow at 60+% for the next couple of years. I am working with a client as we speak that is rolling out Peoplesoft worldwide and using BEAS Tuxedo under it. Only way they can get decent response time to remote sites... What does that tell you about the opportunity for BEAS? There isn't another good way to do this, except maybe reverting back to green screens and IBM mainframes. SAP is the same thing. All the app vendors that want to be BIG DOGS will have to do this. Of course, Oracle is convinced they'll do it with their own middleware. I'm not convinced.

Oracle is going to have to restructure its sales force again to figure out how to sell apps. Read this weeks ComputerWorld and see Ray's comments. They did this while I was there too. No brainer, but difficult for them to implement without a lot of disruption -- see MANU. They have a pretty good feel for what happens when you mess with comp plans and sales strategy at the beginning of a year. They got the crap kicked out of them when they missed their number, and Ray won't miss a number. How to become two virtual companies and make a number as big as theirs is a trick.

BEA doesn't have this problem. They can remain focused on middleware and related tools. They aren't in the apps business. They are into apps enablement. They are growing their sales force worldwide and buying long term account presence.

If you want to buy ORCL you'll be fine. If you want to make MORE MONEY, buy BEAS. Now if you really want risk/reward, buy APTX.

Fly low, sell high...
