Everyone Read Me*********************** "Canadian Court Ruling Gets Identities of Internet-Message Writers Revealed" A Canadian court order dealt a conspicuous blow to the widespread illusion that Internet users can count on pseudonyms to protect their identities. The Ontario Court (General Division) in Toronto has ordered about 12 Internet-service providers to give Philip Services Corp. the identities of people who posted on-line comments that Philip argued were derogatory. The order applied "only to the most defamatory messages....." ........But people who posted the messages are upset. John Gallagher, a former member of the Hamilton City Council, said he posted messages that questioned Philip's "credibility and / or viability" as a business. He questioned the court's decision to make the ruling without consulting the Internet providers, and was disappointed with what he called the lack efforts to protect his identity by by his Internet Service provider....... This exert came from yesterday's edition of the Wall Street Journal. To the naysayers: Between your intention to manipulate GLOWs stock price and the above, it is only a matter of time before you are either thrown in jail by the SEC or personally sued by a company for making defamatory remarks.
