Christine, Your fears for Spectran are justified, but the saving grace is that it can't fall too far (I hope) from the current levels. If you are a recent buyer, you will be protected by the book value of the company.

On the positive side,

The fiber industry will recover.
Asia will rebound.
Spectran may post increased sales (note: General Cable(gcn), their partner in General Photonics, just reported a great quarter).
If Spectan falls any further, they'll be an attractive acquisition.

I have a special interest in Spectran. I guided my daughter into buying it in her IRA in 1997. She has a cost basis of 19, and gives me dirty looks whenever I talk about the market. I desperately need to recover my paternal credibility.
