Sounds like denial. Look up articles in many magazines, and you'll see that UNIX is getting more attention than before (1-3 years ago)
Corporations are waking up to the hype of NT and doze.
Linux, on the one hand, is being mentioned by major players (whether positively or negatively) like Oracle. This, as I've read, is a sign of being a serious contender.
In any case, the world revolves with different views. I for one, have Microsoft out for ever. I'm not here to convince you of my view. I present, and you decide. Don't want to go in circles and regurgitate

If you can find me numbers showing UNIX gaining market share in ANY category, I would like to see it. In sheer numbers, I agree there are more UNIX installations now than 3, or even 1, years ago.
UNIX is getting crushed in the workstation market (by NT). UNIX had the entire market, and their share is dwindling fast. UNIX owned the web server market. They still have a big lead, but that is also being reduced. Now that NT is focusing on the enterprise, I expect we will see the same effect among enterprise servers (but to a lesser degree). I do realize that NT servers cannot keep up with UNIX boxes in a lot of cases at this point, and that probably won't change very quickly. |
