Rambus Reports Results for the Third Fiscal Quarter

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1998--Rambus
Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS) today reported financial results for the three and
nine month periods ended June 30, 1998.
Third quarter revenues of $9.2 million were up 35% over the same
period last year, but down 5% compared to the previous quarter.
Revenues for the first nine months of fiscal 1998 were $28.2 million,
an increase of 55% over the same period in fiscal 1997.
Operating income for the third quarter was $1.8 million, compared
to $505,000 in the same period last year and $2.2 million in the
previous quarter. For the nine-month period ended June 30, 1998,
operating income increased to $6.2 million compared to $1.0 million
last year. Third quarter diluted earnings per share were $0.07
compared to $0.02 in the same period last year and $0.07 in the
previous quarter. Diluted earnings per share for the first nine months
of fiscal 1998 were $0.21 compared to $0.04 for the same period in
fiscal 1997.
Third quarter operating results were in line with the Company's
previous statements which focused on the expectation of a seasonal
decline in the shipment of Rambus ICs for use in Nintendo 64 video
games.
Rambus Inc. designs, develops, licenses and markets high-speed
chip-to-chip interface technology to enhance the performance and
cost-effectiveness of consumer electronics, computer systems and other
electronic systems. The Company licenses semiconductor companies to
manufacture and sell memory and logic ICs incorporating Rambus
interface technology and markets its solution to systems companies to
encourage them to design Rambus interface technology into their
products.
