Jim,

Lots of laughs! Say, congratulations on getting the Mars rover up...must not have slept over there for a week! What a special thing to be a part of.

Seems like we may have a bad day tomorrow...I am going out to the chapel to pray that we can recover if there is any bad news...maybe some comic relief can help...

You are very correct that these huge media companies (movie houses too like the Big 6 studios in Hollywood--Disney, Warner bros.,Universal, Sony, Paramount, and Fox) will be getting more and more together with the phone companies...content will still be king (making me look more at Marvel--MRV--bc it has shot down to shallow prices--heavy debt-bad guy perlman--and everyone is afraid of it) not to mention someone like MSFT with its cash and its mind power (they know what is going on a little more than the John Malone's of the world)is going to be in the thick of things...

Well, just rumor here--please correct me if it is incorrect!--but I believe I heard that James Steenbergen was overheard doing something strange at a meeting in Europe about a month or two ago...The rumor I heard, and I repeat it is a rumor, was that Jim was singing at the ECSUX (better known as the "European Conference for Shaping Up to XDSL") Conference in Geneva this past October 19th, 1996...yep, got right up during the meeting, a little tipsy I heard (he was talking to a lot of people who spoke everything from Mandarin to German to Chech so I don't blame him), and just started singing...And, you guessed it, he was apparently singing...
ANOTHER BOND SONG!!!...I could not believe it when I heard the news...I just heard it earlier today...Apparently Tac was there and he took notes...I got them from a reliable source and I won't say how...here they are...the alcohol-soaked raspy tongue forgotten, of course...

LIVE DMT AND LET CAP DIE

When ADSL was young
And VOD was just an open book
You used to say Live CAP and Let Live
(You know you did...You know you did...You know you did--sung by Cioffi, I heard, as he was pointing at some of the ECSUX members)

But in this ever changing world in which we live in
The one that makes you give it a try...
Say Live DMT and Let CAP Die
Live DMT and Let CAP Die
Live DMT and Let CAP Die!

(Guitar Solo by the usually silent Donald Lucas--no one really knew he played violin in high school nor that he played in Oingo Boingo before joining Amati a few years ago---I bet he was the one responsible for the clever product names)

Why does Amati matter to ya?
Because when you've got a job to do
You've got to do it well
You've got to raise a little Hell
(Now...this is when I thought my source was fooling with me...apparently, this is when John Coiffi got up on the long table and did his best impression of Tom Cruise dancing from Risky Business)

(Violin Solo by Lucas)

(Jim really let's go here...he has been impatient you know, talking to U.S. Telco's for some time and the stress is easier to release out there in Europe)

You used to say Live CAP and Let Live
(You know you did...You know you did...You know you did)
But in this ever changing world world in which we live in
Makes you give them all a try...come on fellas
Say, Live DMT and Let CAP Die
Live DMT and Let CAP Die!
You know it is inevitable
Live DMT and Let CAP Die!!!!!!

Jim passed out from exhaustion. Coiffi, Tac, and Lucas rushed him out of the room...Gibbons was there to calm the storm (I heard Latif was the only one of the Board members in the states...interesting).
The ECSUX members apparently were so stunned that they decided to hold off the conference until late December. Word was unclear for awhile what the undertones of the whole escapade were...but word, now, is that everyone is seeing things now just a little more clearly...a tactical move by Jim, no doubt, but one he thinks may speed the process by three months...an eternity in the ECSUX community...

I only have to say, if this is really true, give me what Jim was drinking out there! My source thinks it was a martini, of course...shaken but not stirred.

:-)

ALL IMHO
pigboy

P.S. All in good fun, of course
