The mention of Skousen makes me want to spring to JD's defense. For about three years I endured both the ideologue-ladened commentary and the errant stock picking recommendations of Skousen only to watch my portfolio sink.

Both Dessauer's approach and his stock picks are much more to my liking, SEW and CPPKY notwithstanding. Nonetheless, I've been a subscriber long enough to believe that if one has a long-term perspective and patience, one will do better with JD than without him. I can't say the same for Skousen. Plus, one has to endure his politically pedantic prose, most of which has little to do with the market IMHO. (I think the last Skousen newsletter I got had Clinton being impeached for being implicated in the murder of Vince Foster. This was prior to the election in '96.)
