Jim, here's some interesting stuff on the Sharptooth, a.k.a K6-3.
1. In the conference call, they refered to the K6-3 as the "Sharptooth," because marketing hadn't decided whether to call it the K6-3 or something else yet.

Most of what's below comes from a "chat" session last Friday hosted by Shiloh at hardware.pairnet.com. Two AMD reps participated in the chat. There's a transcript of it at cpu.simplenet.com

1. CPU speeds - 350 MHz in 3rd quarter, 400 MHz in fourth.
2. architectural improvements in K6-3: cache integration, I/O bus improvements, minor tweaks
3. K6-3 will be 100% compatible with socket 7 motherboards
4. Initial speed of the K6-3: "we're targeting at least 350MHz... not
disclosed but we have said 400Mhz by years end.
5. There will be K6-3 variants - an L2=cacheless version will be sold as a souped up K6-2, slightly faster. (This also allows CPU's with bad L2 cache to be sold.
6. Many motherboard makers in Taiwan are adding 95 MHz bus speed
7. When does AMD plan on releasing it's Network Products with
Tut's Homerun Technology?

<Olo> Well done Onewin, you caught AMD off-guard
<MichaelLim> Onewin, Homerun prototypes are already working in our labs. The first sample silicon is supposed to be out around Sept. timeframe. Expect to see technology based on Tut/Homerun to be available by the end of this year.
8. K7 specifications will be released October and demo'd at Comdex (Nov.)
9. <Olo> May I ask - now that we have seen the negligible difference in performance between Intel P-II's half speed and
clock speed L2 cache - Why not make the K6-3 with half speed L2 and save yourselves some good yield?
<AMD> Yield won't be a problem... Why go halfway?
10. On the K7:<MichaelLim> We can say that K7 is a 7th generation processor design. As such it is meant to compete with Intel's
next 7th generation CPU code named "Willamette" K7 will outclass any current Intel design based on 6th generation PII, including XEON.
11. On when AMD will have equivalent clock speed as Intel:

I thought that AMD had promised the K6-3 in October in this chat session, but the answer October was for a different (interleaved) question. The official AMD position on the K6-3 is still "Q4."
