July 14, 1998 07:30 PM (SYNOPSIS) NEW YORK, July 14 (Reuters) - "Ascend Communications Inc. executives said on Tuesday they are "comfortable" with Wall Street's earnings-per-share forecasts for the networking equipment company for the rest of 1998 and for the 1999 year. CFO Michael Ashby said during a conference call with Wall Street analysts that the company was comfortable with current consensus estimates of 31 cents for the third quarter of 1998 and 34 cents for the fourth quarter. In addition, he guided securities analysts to expect earnings for the 1999 year of $1.60 per share. That figure is ahead of the recent First Call consensus of $1.53 per share. Executives said they were comfortable with revenue growth in the "mid-30 percent range" for 1999, up from the "mid-to-high 20 percent" revenue growth expected for 1998, as Ascend continues to gain market share at the expense of many rivals.
