I think you're over-estimating the numbers of companies
that Microsoft takes positions in (hundreds). How many
companies have both Microsoft AND Intel taken positions
in. Are you sure it's just hype? I think they want to
use this system to complement WebTV. They believe it
will have applications to enhance WebTV, otherwise they
wouldn't have invested. When do they report (WavePhore)?
