According to Kennecott's web site, of the 12 divestitures between june 1996 and july 1997, the Utah red beryl options were the only ones to be of sufficient merit to generate cash on their sale. All of the other deals simply resulted in share issuances to Kennecott. That says that perhaps they didn't want to lose the deal.
