Steelguy, Your post brings up a lot of points. Let me just make a few comments in response. Forgive me if I don't respond back immediately afterwards since I'm going to be pretty busy for the next month or so... but I will get back to you if you respond. :-) 1. Welcome to the thread. 2. I don't believe that the only purpose in our life is to glorify God. It may be true... but, currently, I don't (in my heart, so to speak) believe it. Also, there may be several ways of glorifying God. 3. There are some strong arguments for the interpretation of sin to include even just thinking about sin. I would like to hear more of what you think about this subject. Should temporal powers (e.g., governments) have the legal rights to restrict how we think as well as how we act? Should spiritual powers (e.g., churches and religious leaders) have any rights to restrict how we think or act? If we are answerable only to God (or Jesus), should His punishment or reward be implemented or even guessed at by an Earthly power? Perhaps the idea of Jesus forgiving all our sins is really a reflection of our spiritual need to be absolved of spiritual sins (such as just thinking about sins). How does it apply to literal or temporal sins? 4. Perhaps Jesus does forgive our literal and temporal sins. Perhaps, as you say, this provides hope. I suppose you don't believe in reincarnation, but do you see a parallel between Jesus' forgiveness and one's soul finally reaching paradise, and the belief that we live out many lives in an attempt to reach paradise? Maybe you are right in that this world offers us nothing except love... that we just have to see reality. Interesting parallels to other religions! Greg
