Michael - Re: " Menocino. Would you be so kind and tell me more about this chip? "

Mendocino is a modified 0.25 micron Pentium II with an additional 128 KiloByte L2 cache added to the CPU chip. The L2 cache will run at full CPU speed.

The chip is tentatively scheduled for introduction August 24, 1998 - first silicon was received at Intel almost two months ago - fully functional.

Look for a launch of the Mendocino - as the third member of the Celeron family - with Intel aggressivley ramping this into production to compete with AMD's K6 and K6-2.

Initially, Mendocino will be offered in a modified Slot 1 configuration. In early 1999, Intle will offer a lower cost 370 pin plastic PGA package option for the Mendocino.

I would expect 300 and 333 MHz speed grades to be available, using a 66 MHz bus speed and 440EX chip sets.
