Here is a first class whiner. He starts out bitching about Microsoft putting it to the world, and then later in the article tries to take credit for it at the same time...What cojones! In defense of Microsoft (I know I'm at risk here) If it weren't for microsoft, we would still be without computers, because we couldn't afford IBM's mainframes, or Apple's expensive solution..only reason price of apples came down, is they had competition of msft computers and they were also going broke. In addition, if we didn't have one dominant operating system, all of our computers wouldn't be able to communicate, every one would have a different OS and life would be H#ll. Which brings us to the purpose of this file swapper: Microsoft.."We wanted to be assured of a known, working baseline operating system when we were done with installation." It is in the book, even though the whiner wants us to think otherwise. His claim for fame is that it was HIS idea in the first place, after bitchin' about the existence and blaming Microsoft..: Ironically, the origin of the Version Conflict Manager appears to have been a series of four columns written I wrote from Sept. 2 to Sept. 23, 1996. The columns complained that Windows 95 allowed applications to install older versions of shared files over newer ones, causing programs to crash. I urged Microsoft to have Windows catch such conflicts and prevent them, while allowing the user to switch between shared files, if necessary, later. Not very subtle, Brian. |
