From Breifing for July 15th 98. Ascend (ASND) posted a gain of $0.29, one cent above estimates.. Revenues up 7% year over year and 12% sequentially... Company noted that it expects strong growth in certain products through year end, especially in North American and European regions... Remains cautious about Japan... All in all a good report... But what could move the stock more was company's remark that it wasn't in talks to acquire Advanced Fibre (AFCI)... Street took ASND down nearly 4 points on belief that if ASND were to acquire AFCI, then it itself would not be subject of an acquisition; and stock has risen in recent weeks, in part, on speculation that Lucent (LU) or Ericsson (ERICY) would buy the company.
