Interesting Article Elwood. One thing that struck me is the reduction of 3000 jobs. I had a friend who just quit Intel a few months ago, said that Intel had really slashed the bonuses and raises this past year in order to convince people to quit rather than having to lay them off. Company I used to work for did that too - end result at my company (and my friend confirms that it's the same situation at Intel) is that the talented people who have initiative, those that know that they could get a better job elsewhere, they are the first to quit. The mediocre people who are less secure about their talents and who have less initiative are more inclined to stay put and weather the storm due to inertia. So when Intel loses its 3000 workers, it may be 3000 of their better engineers. What impact this will have on Intel in the future, I don't know.
