Haven't read the Gorilla Game yet, but I understand what people are saying here. Did the book specifically give advantages to software companies over hardware, or are companies like INTC and CSCO just as easy to find as SAP and MSFT? In between that realm I have taken a look at a fabless semiconductor company, NeoMagic (NMGC), who is financially sound and hopefully has a large enough technological advantage over many of their larger semi brethren to become a gorilla in their specific niches. They now dominate the market for graphics chips in notebook computers and by the end of the year should announce a few new SOC (system on a chip) products for digital cameras and DVD applications. Although their fabless presence might have been looked down upon in the past, now with the insurgence of low inventory OEMs in the electronics world (i.e., Dell) I can see great benefit in letting others maintain the capacity and do the monkey work for you. I guess I see them as having a competitive advantage in knowledge, that results in a company that averages about $1M in revenue a year per employee. Check them out, and let me know if their fabless nature may hold back the growth necessary to consider them a gorilla.

regards
