<< I read through the above but was unable to ascertain any specifics pertaining to many of the companies. A number didn't have websites, and I haven't had time to contact them via the telephone. (Do you have the specific links?). >>

Well just an example from: lonmark.org

The list of partners is long and many are active in the building automation market sector:

Control Solutions: jged.com is one example I got to...but there are probably others. These guys looks to be in hardware only...

What I am saying is that Alya is not alone in this business and although they may have the lead, it is not an easy job to identify what make them the leader. All these partners use the same Longworks backbone. All connect to it. For now, what makes Alya sort of unique is the WIN NT platform and the fact that they are attracting big distributors worlwide. That is good enough for me...but I am not sure this give them a 2-year lead.

<< In your own investigation have you determined which specifics companies have similar platforms to the Open Cortex? >>

First Open Cortex is not yet a commercial product, if I am not mistaking. Open Centrix is. Cortex is being developed for a release in 3Q99...same with Dragon a smaller version of Open Centrix... So, do we know if there are other companies that will come with similar products by that time. I don't know.

I have'nt seen any comparable to what Cortex will do. But again, maybe some company have a product for which they have develop a similar platform that could end up being a commercial product.

Ztect, don't understand me wrong. I am enthusiastic about Alya's business, its potential and its market. But, although I have done a lot of work investigating (and still have a lot to do). I can't at this stage be sure that they are unique, alone in their market and possess a two year advance. To say this, I would have to know and understand the few hundreds company that are partners of the Lonmark Association.

<<Have you been able to contact these companies?>>

No not yet...

<<I also noted on the Echelon site, that Alya's was recognized this spring for its products amongst LON members. This was noted before on this thread. Isn't this significant? >>

Very significant of course... but Alya is not alone.
