Well - you induced me to go to my reference work - the Webster New Collegiate. They list "parent" as a verb, so I am grudgingly compelled to admit it as acceptable practice. But I will not go gently into the night on this one. I find the usage less than pretty even if technically admissible. Yer gonna hafta let me grumble in defeat for a while on this one.
