Ali, In fact there is a LOSS of $1.8B in this quarter,
do you hear me? There was no profit of $1.2B. THERE IS A LOSS!

No. Let me try to explain.
There was some minor damage to my house because of a windstorm. I call you up to fix it. You assess the damage and tell me you want $2,000 to fix it. I tell you to get lost. You reply, "wait, ok, how about $1,000". I say ok.

You fix it and knock on my door. I review your work and complain about your shoddy workmanship and refuse to pay. You threaten me with a frivolous lawsuit.

Just to get rid of you, I say ok, I'll pay. But how about I pay 1,000 worth of AMD options at today's price. You agree to those terms.

Now, whether those options go on to expire worthless or are exercised at 8000, really doesn't matter to me. I bought them for $1,000 and gave them to you as payment.

So YOU SEE, INTEL really DID have a PROFIT of 1.2 BILLION.
