I'm not missing your point, in fact this message confirmed my question. I think what you responded to was someone asking about how to connect a bunch of PCs which were essentially a network to be used by an individual in various modes, possibly with some low usage from others.
Agreed, if you have more ACTIVE users, what you suggest makes sense. My question was based on the posit that if one is connecting multiple computers to use essentially as one, what's the advantage. This is home to me, as I have 6 networked PCs in my house with mostly me as the active user, sometimes two of us, occasionally three.
I think there are probably a lot of folks in my situation who trade at home or otherwise work from home. For us, the typical bandwidth collision issues rarely occur. I occupy 99.9% of bandwidth all by myself, 98% of the time.
Certainly these remain valid questions to ask, but the answers are different for many of us (for me, for instance). That was the point of the question.
