Shalom <<"I don't believe in a literal interpretation" always manages to rear it's ugly head. As well as do the following phrases..."That is a misinterpretation, or you are taking it out of context.>>
I did not say that you misinterpreted or took anything out of context. I said that I, personally, have a hard time with literal interpretation. I went out of my to say that I have no problem with your believing it. I am not trying to create a "i am right and therefore you are wrong" argument that happens so often on this thread. frankly, I am not smart enough to just proclaim that my opinion is better than yours. I dont know that it is. I only know how i feel, and what seems to work for me. I am just as entitled tonot believe in literal interpretation as you are to believe in it.
<<...it is those types of passages that create a problem for me with respect to literal translation, or even certain passages of the Bible entirely.
Please tell me, if you will ,just what passages give you a problem? Especially since I did not interpret any passage.>>
I apologize for my wording. I just dont agree with the passage you pasted in your post. It doesnt ring true for me. that doesnt mean that it shouldnt have great and legitmite meaning for you.
<<To me, that passage doesnt answer the questions of my prior post. It doesnt make sense to me, and just saying well trust it anyways, doesnt work for me.
Sorry Mark, I am at a total loss by that statement. I have no idea what you are referring to. I quoted many passages. What doesn't make sense to you? Trusting what? Could you please be more specific?>>
Again, i apologize. when i post, I am usually at work and trying to go as fast as i can. sometimes my thoughts are clear to me, but arent expressed as eloquently as i would hope to be able to. sorry.
what I meant was that passage oe your post in general didnt answer the questions that i had asked in my posts to bob and Steve. the trusting [art i in reference to the old adage, tht faith(trust) is necessary to believe the bible. If you dont understand it, just hve faith that it is right. That doesn't work for me.
<<I am happy that it does work for you and gives you comfort. I wish you nothing but the best with it, but personally, I need more.>>
I ws eferring to your beliefs in general. I am truly happy that you derive great comfort in Jesus. I wish you nothing but the best in your religious pursuits(sincerely). However, they just dont work for me. Again, I am not saying that I am right and you are wrong. I am only stating the status of my current beliefs and that they feel right for me.
I get the impression that my comments, if not my presence, on this thread irritates you. If htat is true, I am sorry for that. I am not apologetic for my beliefs, but for the fact that we cant communicate with more and greater understanding for and of each other. I hope that changes in the future.
