>>>read Sid's preceding post for a lesson in reality.<<<
Sid's post was little more than Sid's attempt to link the everyday actions of the "short" with acceptable human behavior. To assert that shorts are actually serving some higher humanistic/economic role by providing a system of checks and balances for the ultimate good of mankind , is like saying that there was anything "Civil" about the War Between the States. Show me a short who doesn't possess a kill-em-all-let-God-sort-em-out attitude ...and I'll show you several SI:SOLV posters who have nothing better to do with their time than pretend they're tough postin' guys....
SOLV assumed that $100 million would be enough for production. SOLV was wrong. Expanding/ start-up companies often are wrong when estimating costs. So what. Because they went in under capitalized is hardly grounds from which to conclude there is/was an effort to lie, conspire, perspire or defraud.
Oil and mining endeavors are expensive and rarely -scratch that - NEVER cost LESS than initial estimates. According to a report written written by the Alberta ministry of Energy in 1996, the estimated initial investment for an oil sands start up project was $200 million. Today, I believe Shell, Mobil and Koch are throwin' around the idea of spending a billion dollars. But these companies are entering a now proven industry from which they can better estimate their cost-to-production . I'll bet they still spend considerably more than they estimate now. But, again, who cares!!! I'm not gonna rush out and short em...are you? .... I know, I know, Barb...ya have to ask "you-know-who" first...THEN pretend it's your idea.
You can fault SOLV for going from an R&D company to the oil fields and into an aspect of the business they really didn't fully understand. But, you can't blame SOLV for going for the brass ring. Besides, do many businesses "start up" over capitalized? Of course not. Does it show stupidity or fraud for them to seek additional financing? Well ...no would be the correct answer . On the other hand, according to the "reality report" from retired Union Army General 'Sid' T. Sherman...death was an acceptable punishment for any cotton-pickin' company caught short of cash!! And, according to the General, it would be the duty of every God-fearin', business-hatin', Yankee-lovin', carpet-baggin' Short , with ANY sense of Country or shred of decency, to help drive those damned confederate under-capitalized rebel-bastards to the sea. .....
..my regards to the missus...
