Seems to be the case doesn't it. Yeah I too am stuck in that punishing mindset of trying to pick stocks based somewhat on present day value, only to watch those of little or no value go up. Of course the theory is that those start-ups like Yahoo, Spyglass, and Lycos will be well worth those astronimical Price/Sales ratios, once their revenue stream increases 10 fold by 1999. I guess that's the fun of investing, because a lot of it makes very little sense.
