This thread and US investors in general ignore one of the earliest players in the ATM game that is also the incumbent supplier of older technology backbone switching equipment to the Telco's. I am referring to Newbridge Networks. While NN has had bad times recently, I would not count them out by any means. They still hold a major share of the ATM backbone market. I believe that they get passed over because they lack a significant presence in the enterprise network market and because they are based in Canada. They will always be smaller than CSCO because NN has a much smaller market focus, but they will remain a strong player within their niche.

For the record, I am long both CSCO (got more than a 10-bagger going) and NN & see no conflict in this. Investing is not the NFL. There can be more than 1 winner in the same game.
