Rhythms Netconnections Launches Turn-Key Internet Service

July 16, 1998

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation --
DSL-Based, Carrier-Class Service Supports In-House Web Applications,
Starting Under $1000/Month

Rhythms NetConnections, the high performance networking company, today
announced its new Turn-Key Internet Service is available to businesses in the
San Diego market. The service targets sites with 5 to 200 network users, and
delivers everything needed to easily upgrade Internet access to support onsite
web hosting, secure Internet and intranet access. Per site pricing ranges from
$995.00/month (including end-user access at 768Kbps over DSL-based service)
to $1495.00/month (including end-user access at full T-1 speeds of 1.544
Mbps).

"Our prospects are fast-growing businesses who need to make a quantum leap
from simple dial-up Internet access to a powerful Internet-enabled business
network. At the top of their list are quick and smooth installation, robust and
speedy network performance, outsourced CPE management, and lots of
networking functionality for the money," said Michael Sabo, Rhythms' Director
of Applications Development.

Turn-Key Internet Service includes the following features and onsite
equipment, at pricing typically 50% less expensive than what a company would
pay to buy and integrate the network itself:

-- Always-on, high performance DSL connectivity from a customer
site to a Rhythms ISP partner
-- DSL modem and router
-- Firewall
-- Secure and dedicated web publishing server
-- Corporate intranet server
-- Internet access, including E-mail, Domain Name Service
(DNS), File Transfer Protocol (FTP) as well as Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol (DHCP), needed for easy IP address
administration.

Together with its authorized Internet Service Provider partners, Rhythms
configures, installs and manages the software and hardware integrated in the
offering. The customer has no capital burden and minimal management burden,
as Rhythms also delivers monthly performance reporting and full service
guarantees to the end user.

"If we had done the hardware selection and procurement ourselves we'd have
tied up a lot of time and capital", said Dave Blaylock, CEO of WebSphere, Inc.,
a Turn-Key Internet customer. " Our time and money is freed up for our
business growth, and we figure we saved over 50% in combined networking
and equipment expense going with Rhythms."

"We knew we had to find a carrier-class networking and server platform to
support mission-critical user applications like web services. It had to meet our
quality standards and still be affordable for customers," said Sabo. "We
selected FreeGate's award-winning all-in-one Internet access platform to
bundle into Rhythms' Turn-Key Internet service. As our users add sites,
Turn-Key Internet will also scale with additional capabilities like virtual private
networking (VPN) between the corporate sites. And the service is so easy to
understand and customize, it can be ordered over the phone or via our
website."
