Maxwell, <<off topic, mostly>>

The reason why I so much cherish the exchange of posts with you is because you always have a curve ball up in your sleeve to throw at me. There is never a dull moment, and I will try my best to hit that special curve ball of yours.

On the very fascinating subject of trapping a photon, let's not just limit it to a quantum well. The photons going around a black hole (assuming its kind do exist) would be considered trapped. When you light up a lantern, you would see yourself with this lantern in both directions along the equator of this black hole. It is always a theoretical possibility to trap/confine such a photon, an observed, so called, particle manifested by electro-magnetic radiation. There is no need even for my great special capability of time traveling to travel to a unique corner of the universe to demonstrate such a feat.

Regarding flying saucers which most people identify as UFO (unidentified flying objects), don't you think if you can determine a UFO as a flying saucer, you actually have identified such an object? The should be called IFO (identified flying objects) at the moment on. Back to our moment of presence, the scientists have known enough about the 'physics' of science. They would certainly know what is possible and what is not. The idea of even some one coming to our very humble and obscure planet just to take a peak at our even more humble and even more obscure creatures is indeed very remotely possible. I do assess UFOs as nonsense. However, they do conjure up great entertainment values.

Have you ever compared ourselves with the fungi living in your garbage can? Could it be possible that we are living in somebody else's garbage can? We are just as intelligent, to the hosts who own the garbage cans, as we observe the fungi are in our very own garbage cans. Maybe I have read too many of Arthur C. Clarke's novels.

The universe is a very tricky thing which I am sure you have spent a few insomnia nights contemplating about it. But why? Don't you want to concentrate your mental energy in making more money? Is AMD really that much of a good buy right now? If you wisely choose the right investment, you don't have to spend too many 3AM mornings sorting through SI posts, just a very friendly advice.
