CA IS DESPERATE TO GET TECHNICAL PEOPLE ON BOARD.
Mrknowitall,
I like yours post, it contains deep analysis, but not just barking comments.

<"As long as mergers and acquisitions continue and no one in the management cares about anything beyond this quarter's results, the pool will stay deep.">

You are right Acquisitions is the key for CA. The problem is that in new high tec market they may need to keep good people, which they didn't need in the past and were not able to do.

Ingres acquisition was almost a disaster in term of technical perspectives as well as Visual Object development.

At least in NY area people are laughing on CA offering. Even fresh graduates look at CA as a jock, which probably not bad for them. They could stay for 6-12 months and then triple the salary. Most new technical people live CA in lees than 12 months. They probably get to much fun.
Gall.

PS:
From BostonView,
<"The twins and our new trial members will love pages 40-41; 19 reasons why CA "was chosen the best place to work". My personal fav is #12 "CA employees tend to have 74% more fun than employees of other high-tech companies." ">
Everybody knows that it is BIG BS. I could imagine how people at CA laughing at it? If consider CA employees in masochistic preferences then they defiantly have 74% more fun than others do.
Only ignorant and naive people could like the above statements.
