It's not just my opinion but a general industry opinion. It was either Paul or Tony who said they couldn't figure out why Intel would put out a chip that was capable of such ridicule.

Has the Celeron achieved Intels objective? Yes and no. It did allow Intel to move solely to Slot one. Since the Pentium II relies so much on the L2 cache for speed, then it was removed, the Celery gained a reputation of a dumbed down chip. Like a 486SX. Personally I'm glad the product mix in the 2 qtr was only 5% Celeron. Since the Celeron wasn't ramped for the whole qtr so this will increase but the Mendocino won't be up to quite as much ridicule.
