RACE up 100% at 2 1/8 receives patent for virtual office system, AN ANTONIO, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- DATA RACE (Nasdaq: RACE - news) announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued patent No. 5,764,639 entitled ''System and Method for Providing a Remote User with a Virtual Presence to an Office'' earlier this month. The patented system and method provide remote users with the ability to work outside of the office just as if they were physically located in the corporate office. This technology makes it possible for the telecommuter and road warrior to work more productively and be more accessible to customers and co-workers.
''We are delighted to have this patent issue after two and a half years,'' stated W. B. Barker, President and CEO of DATA RACE. ''The Telepresence(TM) concepts that we invented in 1995 have recently gained real currency in the market. While it is unusual in the industry for patents to be of substantial strategic value, we believe that the concepts covered in this patent, embodied in our current Be There!(TM) Remote Access System and in future enhancements, will be of interest to a very broad segment of the market. We are optimistic that access to this and the other patents that we have pending will be of substantial interest to various of the prospective partners with whom we are currently in discussion.''
Simultaneous voice, data, and fax access over a single dial-up phone line gives the Be There! system a critical advantage over other remote access solutions. In today's corporate environment, productivity is crucial. The ability to make calls while also sending and receiving data and fax messages over one phone line from wherever you are makes Be There! a clear winner. But voice access, even with a simultaneous data connection, is not enough to make the remote worker as productive as the worker in the office. Be There! virtually attaches the remote worker's phone to the office PBX, and creates the appearance to others that the remote worker is at the corporate office. Such Telepresence(TM) is needed to make the remote worker as highly effective and accessible as a worker back at the office.
The Company is currently investigating a number of recently-announced products and services from various vendors which may infringe this patent. The Company intends to aggressively defend its rights under the patent.
