I'm not calculating "max. pain" for options. Another poster to this groupd does, but not on a daily basis. I mostly track the OI and volumen put/call ratios to look for extremes in sentiment. I'll add the "max. pain" calc. someday, but since I've never to tried to trade off that indicator, I wouldn't put much weight on it, without some experience with it.
