I attended the special shareholders meeting today where the
new 1.5 million shares for the employee stock options were voted
in. Mr. North, Chairman of HNC, spoke about the status of the
company. Everything sounded good. He seemed to be confident that HNC would have a good 4th qtr, and he suggested that in 1997 we can expect two to maybe four additional aquisitions. He said HNC's goal is to maintain a 40-50% annual revenue growth via a mix of increased sales of existing and new internal products, as well as continued acquisitions. He added that there were none imminent.

One thing that sounded interesting -- he said that there's about $1 billion in credit card fraud in the US annually, and there's about $10 billion in check fraud. Currently HNC only has products addressing credit card fraud, but he says HNC is working with a major (unnamed) bank right now on a pilot project to test some HNC software for check fraud detection. If all goes well, they'll start selling a check fraud detection product in late 97.

All in all, fairly positive meeting on a rainy dreary morning in San Diego.
