Steve, nice to hear from you (except index-theory of course)...
I had a valve-type-amp too, bought at 1963 - "he" was my first hifi-amp, bought used for 300,- DM. I was a schoolboy and got 9,- DM a week from my parents... firebottle, great term.
I read the theory, that "healthy eating" was not a question of "fat", "calories" and so on but depending on the way we take our meals. I'm sure you know that French people has by far fewer problems with heart-related diseases - and they like butter & eggs.
But they "celebrate" the meals. In contrary an important part of "AWOL" (american way of life) is "don't eat" - and if, do it along other things and without spending time. I think, it's coming from Britain - their food is not eatable without undertainment. (g)
Here in Holland, we miss (!!!) the opportunity to take a lunch-session (it's the usual fastfood-shit, and even in expensive "restaurants" you get loveless prepared meals. In Spain, Italy, Germany and - of course - France there's a culture, and this seems to be more healthy than all vitamin-drugs together.
"Back to stocks, back to reality..." (can you hear the sound?)
My "runners" are Dell- and CPQ-calls - they doubled during a few weeks, and I'm holding a lot of them. I'm still waiting for BA and ADPT - who knows? Of course there's a lot of diverse positions too like PFE, MRK, G, GE and MSFT.
When I buy "stocks", it's mostly just 200 each - just for "trying" how much "worse" a stock-portfolio (nearly without tracking) performs. Now you would find there SNE, SRV, RMBS, DEO, DELL, CPQ, CCI and BFO, I revolve this maybe 3-4times a year - making about 100% so far.
The only "big" stock-positions I hold are DELL and SAP - I will add GE and SNE sometimes, they seem to me to be the only quite absolute "safe" investments.
In contrary to f.e. MSFT, SAP is not vulnerable, in no way. And they aren't reacting like MSFT, they made it themself. Dell will not stop growing till they are the absolute number one. GE and SNE are the worldchampions among the multis, booth living from their own strenght, not from political pressure. SNE especially is the most innovating mass-producer worldwide.
What about you? I cannot track your index-work, it's too strange for me, and I'm too long on the beach for working more. :) You know my numbers - is it worth changing the strategy? Not every strategy is good for every mentality, but finally, what counts is the roi as Berney use to say - and he's right.
Hope, the sun will shine again tomorrow, we have about 20% (I mean 70%?), and the biggest amount of humidity comes from above forming little balls, sometimes spaghettis...
If you still stayed in Paris, we came to visit you next week - pitch!
Happy trading!
