Tom,

Apples jewel, QuickTime, has a new compression algorithm called Sorenson Compression. It not only is the most beautiful of all the software only compression systems for video out there, but it also allows you to download QT movies over the net in the appropriate size for your modem, and compresses files to tiny sizes. For example you could download a 320x240 if you have a T-1 line or a 160x120 if you have a 28k modem. All streaming.

Sorenson does require a faster computer to work correctly (during decompression) but that should not be a factor by next year. It really is beautiful compression.

AVI on the other hand sucks eggs, looks crappy, runs lousy, big file sizes. MicroSoft has a new format that reads many types of Video. Haven't seen it yet but I'm suspicious it's just the same old crappy Microsoft multicrappymedia.
