Ok, now I know that we're in a speculative froth. it's fragrance for Pete's sake. Doesnt' anyone think that someone will want to smell it before they buy it!!! I know it's all those folks who already know what kind of perfume/cologne they'll buy (probably those same folks who already know exactly which book and edition they'll buy before they go shopping -- aren't they the only kind of shopper in our new world of cyber-uropia???)

Company Press Release

Fragrance Counter Reports Major Increase in Traffic

Increase attributable to major agreements signed with "portal" sites -- Excite, Yahoo! and Lycos--

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1998-- Fragrance Counter (AMEX:ALU - news; www.fragrancecounter.com), the leading online fragrance retailer,
Thursday announced that traffic for 2nd Quarter 1998 (April, May and June) has quadrupled vs. traffic for 2nd Quarter 1997.

Approximately 600,000 users clicked onto the site during this year's 2nd Quarter -- nearly 500,000 of which visited during May and June -- vs. 150,000 users the same
time last year.

''The May--June period is significant because it directly follows Fragrance Counter's exclusive agreements with the major ''portal'' sites -- Yahoo!, Excite and Lycos --
all of which became effective in the second half of May,'' said Eli Katz, senior vice president and general manager for Fragrance Counter.

The agreements have enabled Fragrance Counter to lock up exclusive real estate and merchandising space on the Internet, since nearly 2/3 of approximately 41.5
million web users pass through at least one of these portals every month.

Fragrance Counter's agreement with America Online (AOL), which secures Fragrance Counter as the exclusive seller of fragrances and cosmetics on AOL, had not
yet gone into effect when traffic was reported for the 2nd Quarter, but Katz expects the agreement to contribute significantly toward increasing traffic in the
company's website.

Visitors to Fragrance Counter's sister site, Cosmetics Counter (www.cosmeticscounter.com), which debuted earlier this month, were not included in the reported
figures.
