I don't know much about this business about shorting Microsoft. I do know there's better shorts out there, like say Yahoo. I don't think I've admitted this before, but I opened a short position on Coke a little while ago. It's been a loser so far, but Coke has a few strikes against it. Firstly, they have for all intents and purposes, no book value. Their earnings are levered through transactions with subsidiaries, and obfuscated through accounting gimmickry. Most importantly, their earnings growth rate is ZERO.

p.s. discount 25% earnings growth for, oh I dunno, say 10 years and tell me again how overvalued Microsoft is.
