Scrapps I hadn't considered other quote sources seriously before, but after today...What I don't understand is that a tech support person at e-schwab tried the number while I was on the phone with her, and she got right thru, no busy signal. I tried it right after her and still got busies. Further, I tried 2 other numbers from nearby cities (long-distance, but who cares), and got busy signal's from them also.

The problem today was actually Compuserve, I think, because e-schwab actually is using Compuserve's local numbers. So maybe Compuserve doesn't have enough modems to handle peak times. I get busy signals all the time from my ISP, and it's starting to get annoying. My ISP recently sent me an e-mail apologising for busy signals. They said they have new modems ready to go, but the local phone company they connect to, Lewis River Telephone (this is a tiny company), has to upgrade their equipment before they can give out more lines. The e-mail also said that US West Communications, the local telco which serves most of this area, also is experiencing this problem. So who knows who is at fault, but I tell you it's getting almost scary around here.

Dwight.

PS: From my perspective, Lucent Tech may not be a bad investment, since I think they provide a lot of this kind of telco infrastructure. I read somewhere recently something to that effect.
