Headline: Glenayre Receives Second Contract For NPCS Upgrade Of MobileComm
Paging Network

======================================================================
CHARLOTTE, N.C. July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre has received a $2.2
million contract from MobileComm to provide receiver equipment for the build
out of its nationwide narrowband PCS (NPCS) paging network. Glenayre's
GL-R9000 receiver is part of an NPCS upgrade to MobileComm's network in the
Dallas area and throughout California. MobileComm purchased Glenayre's
GL-T8500 transmitters through a contract earlier this year.
The upgrade to MobileComm's network will significantly increase capacity,
particularly for the growing nationwide alphanumeric product segment, and
offer limited quantities of two-way text or other advanced messaging paging.
"MobileComm is taking advantage of Glenayre's migration solution as a
logical and economical way to offer the latest NPCS services," said Danny
Grant, Glenayre's area vice president of sales.
"MobileComm's existing Glenayre transmitter and control systems will
provide the basis for our NPCS buildout in these markets," said Mark Witsaman,
senior vice president and chief technical officer for MobileComm. "Together
with Glenayre's GL3100 RF Director, the GL-R9000 receiver completes an NPCS
migration solution that makes our nationwide build out strategy possible."
The initial build out is expected to be complete by 1999, with NPCS
capability established in selected larger markets by the end of 1998.
MobileComm is licensed to operate two nationwide NPCS networks.
Witsaman continued, "The addition of a guaranteed receipt feature will
enhance the growing demand for alphanumeric services. And while our existing
network currently offers us an extremely good footprint, frequency re-use will
provide more economical pricing for nationwide and wide-area alphanumeric
customers."
MobileComm* is one of the largest providers of paging and personal
communications services in the United States. MobileComm offers local,
regional and nationwide coverage in all 50 states, reaching markets of over
95% of the U.S. population, and in the Caribbean. The company operates two
one-way nationwide networks and is licensed to operate two nationwide
narrowband PCS networks. MobileMedia Communications Inc., doing business as
MobileComm, is a wholly owned subsidiary of MobileMedia Corporation.
MobileComm can be found on the World Wide Web at mobilecomm.com.
