Steve,
You'll be happy with that purchase.
Matt Emmens, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Astra Merck, made the following statement: "Up until now, physicians have not had access to a fast, convenient, one-step test to aid in the diagnosis of H. pylori." This statement appeared in a 5 December 1996 article titled, Astra Merck Inc. and Biological & Popular Culture, Inc. Announce Agreement to Market Hp Chek (PRNewswire, prnewswire.com. Mr. Emmens remark appears scandalous considering that he is certainly aware of Quidel's CLIA approved One-Step H.pylori test. We've known about Hp Chek, which is manufactured for Astra Merck by ChemTrak. ChemTrak closed today at 1.75, down from its high 6 this year.
There's an interesting article in the 2 December 1996 online Baron's titled, Unappreciated, A money manager sees lots of bargains among the beaten-down biotechs (http://www.barrons.com/bie/articles/current/toc.html). I agree with Michael Murphy's statement, "Valuations in the biotechnology sector are so low that they have become flat-out ridiculous." Combine the sure to materialize sector turnaround with improved earnings from Quidel, and we'll have a combination that is will bring a big reward to Quidel's investors.
