A Little More On The DIS Executive's Departure...
So, you're a pretty smart online executive guy... helped launch DIS' highly successful Daily Blast... and Dig... which doesn't feature SEEK. (In fact, you were working on Dig while the right hand was shaking hands with Motro and SEEKWORLD.) So, you've done pretty good for yourself, right? (Though, obviously, you missed a few memos and meetings.) Then, things change. Were you Winebaumed or Jaked around? Or, were you plotting some bigger deal with the technology guy?

Disney Online President Leaves for New Venture
By Laura Rich
ÿ A top Disney Online official has left the Internet content company. In an announcement yesterday, staffers at Disney Online and kids service Disney Blast were informed that Richard Wolpert, Disney Online president, had resigned to pursue a start-up venture.
According to sources close to the company, Wolpert was asked to resign, his e-mail was shut off and the padlock on his locked office door broken open. The same sources say that Disney Online's VP of technology also left and plans to join Wolpert in his new venture, and Disney Online will now come more closely under the control of Jake Winebaum, chairman of the Buena Vista Internet Group, which houses Disney Online.
A Disney business partner said the company's calls to Wolpert's office were referred to Winebaum. Disney Online went through several reorganizations under Wolpert's management but Blast has failed to take off in a significant way. Wolpert was considered a favorite of Winebaum and was the most senior official under him.
Although Disney officials couldn't be reached for comment, a switchboard operator at Disney confirmed that Wolpert was no longer with the company. |
