I disagree that this snapperhead is part of any conspiracy other than the Wall Street conspiracy of trying to to line his pockets at the expense of anything else. A gurus job is to not screw a good thing up and thereby lose any bonus check potential. Therefore, the safe bet is always the way to go. What safer than to pounce on what is already dead. He is not buying gold for his personal account because he has no real clue what is going on. Just like his recommendation to avoid the worst sectors, he will probably advise purchasing the best performing sectors.
